Off the
 Beaten Path

Your path falls 10 feet for every 20 feet it rises as it twists and turns amongst the heaps of broken stone at the base of the mountain.  As you reach the cliffs above these broken boulders, you enter a thick bank of fog so wet it reminds you of still, silent rain. The trail ahead is a faint, damp prayer. It occurs to you that you have absolutely no idea why you are on this nearly impossible trail. The path continues steeply up, and slopes invitingly down.
